Scalloping 2020
Scalloping season is right around the corner. As we get prepared for the season, there are some important things to remember. Scallop limit is 2 gallons of whole scallops (in shell), or 1 pint of scallop meat per person per day. There is a maximum of 10 gallons of whole scallops or 1/2 gallon of scallop meat aboard the vessel at any time. From June 15th – 30th in Steinhatchee the limits are as follows: per person; 1 gallon whole bay scallops in shell or one cup shucked (or) per vessel; 5 gallons whole or two pints shucked. Scallops can only be harvested by hand or with a landing or dip net. Per the FWC, vessel operators must make a reasonable effort to maintain a distance of at least 300 feet from divers-down flags on open waters and at least 100 feet from flags on rivers, inlets or navigation channels. Divers-must make a reasonable effort to stay within 100 feet of a divers-down flag. Safety is my #1 priority! I will always have a look-out person aboard the boat to help maintain safety while in the water scalloping. Looking forward to a great season! Captain Banks
